Syariah Court Lets Muslims convert to renounce Islam

As the title suggest the syariah high court in Penang has allowed Siti Fatimah Tan Abdullah, a muslim convert to renouce Islam and revert to the original religion.

According to the Star Newspaper, the Syariah Court allowed this first of its kind decision to be made based on the fact that Siti Fatimah has not been practicing Islam. The court granted Siti Fatima a declaration that she was no longer a Muslim.

The report further highlight that this Buddisht woman converted to Islam in July 1998 for the sake of marrying an Iranian named Ferdoun Ashanian in 1999, but she had not practised its teachings. According to Fatima Ferdoun left her a few months after ther marriage and she had no knowled of his whereabouts.

The Syariah High Court also higlighted that her husbad had failed in guiding and teaching her about Islam; the court also further stressed that the the state Islamic Religious Council (MAIPP) had failed to carryout its duties regarding the welfare of new Muslim converts.
